Job Description

The Project Accounting Specialist – is responsible for developing, maintaining, and managing detailed schedules of values (SOV) for construction or project-based work. This role ensures that all project revenue and costs are accurately allocated, recorded, and reported in alignment with contract requirements and budget tracking. The specialist works closely with project managers, contractors, and accounting teams to ensure financial transparency and compliance throughout the project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain project-specific Schedule of Values in compliance with contract terms.
• Allocate, track, and bill monthly revenue to clients based on specific contract terms.
• Allocate and track costs across labor, materials, subcontractors, and other cost categories.
• Record, reconcile, and monitor project costs against the approved SOV.
• Assist with preparing progress billing and ensure accurate revenue recognition.
• Collaborate with managers and finance teams to resolve discrepancies.
• Maintain accurate documentation for audits, owner reporting, and project closeout.
• Support continuous improvement of cost allocation and reporting processes.

Qualifications:

• 2–4 years of experience in project accounting, cost control, or construction finance.
• Knowledge of Schedule of Values setup and progress billing processes.
• Strong understanding of project accounting principles, GAAP, and contract compliance.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, NetSuite and accounting/project management software.
• Strong attention to detail, analytical skills, and ability to meet deadlines.
