Position Overview

The Key Account Manager (KAM) in Freight Forwarding & Operations is responsible for managing and growing key client accounts by ensuring exceptional service delivery and operational efficiency. This role involves developing strong relationships with clients, understanding their logistics needs, and providing tailored solutions to meet those needs. The KAM will work closely with internal teams to coordinate and optimize freight forwarding processes, ensuring timely and cost-effective transportation of goods.

 

Key Responsibilities:

Account Management:

  • Build and maintain strong, long-term relationships with clients by understanding their business objectives, challenges, logistics requirements, and decision-making processes.
  • Manage assigned key accounts to meet agreed-upon targets, focusing on business retention, long-term relationships, and gross profit (GP) growth.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for key accounts, ensuring prompt and effective communication to address client inquiries and concerns.
  • Negotiate pricing and terms with customers in alignment with sales and product strategies, ensuring all agreements are documented and maintained, including rate sheets, quotes, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Conduct regular and structured account reviews (QBRs) to evaluate performance, address current customer priorities, and explore opportunities for continuous innovation and growth.
  • Collaborate with clients to identify improvement solutions that enhance operational efficiency and deliver value-driven results.

 

Operational Coordination:

  • Manage the logistics and operations for key accounts, including shipment tracking, documentation, and compliance with regulations.
  • Monitor account transactions, track performance metrics, and address any issues promptly.
  • Monitor monthly performance and provide proactive corrective actions in case of deviations.

 

Vendor & Partner Management:

  • Develop and manage strong vendor relationships; negotiate pricing and resolve issues related to price, quality, and delivery discrepancies.
  • Work closely with vendors to stay informed about industry developments and trends.

 

Strategic Planning & Business Development:

  • Maintain compliance with the company’s sales management processes and systems and ensure correct and timely updates in the customer relationship system (CRM).
  • Develop and implement strategies to optimize account profitability and operational efficiency.
  • Identify growth opportunities within existing accounts and propose innovative solutions to enhance client value.

 

Leadership & Collaboration:

  • Provide vision, strategic direction, and coaching to staff and external supply chain partners.
  • Work closely with internal teams, including sales, operations, and customer service, to ensure seamless service delivery and operational success.

 

Data Analysis & Insights:

  • Analyze operational data to identify trends and opportunities for improvement.
  • Stay informed about industry developments, market trends, and regulatory changes.
  • Use this knowledge to provide value-driven solutions to clients.

 

Project & Budget Management:

  • Optimize account profitability while maintaining client satisfaction.
  • Monitor financial performance for assigned accounts, such as revenue, costs, and margins.

 

What We’re Looking For!

 

Experience & Education:

Required:

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in freight forwarding, logistics, or operations, with a focus on key account management.
  • Hands-on experience with CargoWise (required)
  • Degree in Logistics, Supply Chain, Business Administration, or a related field (preferred)

 

Skills & Competencies:

  • Strong communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Deep understanding of the full operational process from job status opening to closing.
  • Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and analytical abilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Proficiency in relevant software, such as CRM systems and logistics platforms, particularly CargoWise, is highly advantageous.

 

Additional Requirements:

  • Flexibility for occasional travel to meet clients or attend industry events.
  • Knowledge of compliance standards for federal, state, and international regulatory agencies.
