Job Description

At the New Braunfels Youth Collaborative, we are building a bridge between school and home through the creation of the Mill Street Youth Center. A safe and supportive space, the Center will welcome all middle school and high school-aged youth in New Braunfels during their out-of-school time (after school, weekends, school holidays, summer).

GENERAL PURPOSE: Under general supervision of the Program Director, this position manages and coordinates administrative and operational activities of the Mill Street Youth Center including programs, special events and activities. Responsibilities include the promotion and coordination of progressive and innovative teen programs and events.

This is an out-of-school time program. Candidates must be available to work afternoons/evenings and occasional weekends.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The following duties are not intended to serve as a comprehensive list of all duties, only a representative summary of the primary duties and responsibilities. Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties listed and may be required to perform additional, position-specific duties.

• Assists in ensuring the delivery of high-quality programs and services for teens during out-of-school time including sports, arts, leadership, cooking, eSports, mental wellness and more.

• Tracks and analyzes program data to identify trends, address challenges, identify program supports needed, and implement strategies that maximize participation and retention in programs.

• Helps to maintain Mill Street Youth Center in a safe condition; provides leadership to assure that facilities are maintained and programs are coordinated in alignment with strategic objectives, State and Federal laws, and within allocated budget.

• Manages programming and special event coordination and setup; recommends additional programming and events to ensure program growth based on student preference and trends. 

• Assists with hiring, training and evaluating assigned staff; develops staff skills and conducts performance evaluations; meets regularly with staff to discuss and resolve workload and technical issues; reviews the work of assigned staff to assure the quality and timely accomplishment of assigned duties and responsibilities.

• Assists with developing procedures, forms, guidelines, and training programs for all assigned staff members; helps to develop and maintain records, systems, and procedures, as well as written and oral reports and presentations.

• Works closely with community partners, volunteers, vendors, and regional sports and recreation associations to promote teen programs, coordinate operations and facilitate community participation.

• Performs other duties as assigned or required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & PREFERRED SKILLS

Education and Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in Parks and Recreation Administration, Kinesiology, Youth Development, Social Work or a related field is required; AND three (3) years youth programming experience with two (2) years supervisory experience preferred. Relevant work experience may be considered in place of a degree.

• Must complete and pass a comprehensive background check.

• Must possess good character and decision-making skills.

• Must possess a sincere interest in children, maturity, self-control, and sound judgment.

• Ability to communicate effectively with peers, members, and management.

Required Licenses or Certifications:

• Must possess a valid Texas Driver’s License.

• First Aid and CPR certifications are required and can be obtained within six months of hiring.

Required Knowledge of:

• Principles and practices of administrative management, fiscal management, supervisory skills and program administration.

• Principals of Social, Emotional, Learning (SEL), Trauma Informed Care and/or Positive Youth Development.

• Program planning, development, and evaluation practices for youth program services.

• Familiarity with quality criteria for after school programs.

• Familiarity with youth development principles for middle/high school aged youth.

• Facility organization, operations, policies, and procedures.

• Strong communication skills.

• Development trends in youth programs.

• Local community resources and regional community services programs.

Required Skill in:

• Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with program partners.

• Supervising staff, and delegating tasks and authority.

• Assessing youth/teen needs and developing programs to equip students for success.

• Collecting data, preparing special reports, and effectively presenting program information and outcomes.

• Managing expenses and revenues to achieve a targeted goal.

• Monitoring operations and assuring programs are conducted in a safe and appropriate manner.

• Assessing and prioritizing multiple tasks, projects and demands.

Physical Demands / Work Environment:

• Employees must be able to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, talk and hear, and taste or smell. 

• Employees are regularly required to sit, work on computer; think clearly, and communicate effectively

• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust your focus with good hand-eye coordination. 

• Maintain emotional control under stress and work with interruptions and deadlines 

• Employees must occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds. 

• Must be able to work irregular hours including weekdays, weekends, holidays, and evenings.

TIMES WORK WILL BE PERFORMED:

• The agency’s hours of operation are extended and non-traditional and may vary based on office and program location and/or stakeholder requirements. Employees are asked to work the schedule that is best suited to the achievement of deliverables and stakeholder/funder requirements based on the agency’s business hours, or as required by stakeholder and contractual requirements. 

• Assigned work hours may change as the needs of the agency change.

• Prior approval from supervisor is required for overtime. 

• Physical on-site presence, including regular attendance and punctuality, is an essential function of this position. Any changes or adjustments to your assigned work schedule or shift hours must be approved by your supervisor in advance. 

• This position requires weekend work.

SALARY AND BENEFITS: 

Starting pay: $45,000-60,000 (negotiable dependent upon qualifications)
