Project Coordinator – Role Overview

Hybrid in Kalamazoo, MI 3 days on-site

$30-$33 an hour

The Project Coordinator is responsible for executing the delivery of gas and electric services to residential, commercial, and industrial customers. This role requires a working knowledge of Gas and/or Electric Distribution Systems and the ability to manage projects from initial scope gathering through design, scheduling, and field construction phases—ensuring alignment with the customer’s desired timeline.

Key Responsibilities

Customer Engagement

  • Serve as the primary liaison between Consumers Energy, customers, and external stakeholders.
  • Provide timely updates on project status and maintain strong customer relationships.

Project Management

  • Organize and prioritize small to large-scale projects based on customer needs.
  • Manage project milestones and coordinate work assignments in response to work orders.
  • Estimate customer and system loads and provide cost estimates.
  • Identify required permits and schedule work orders accordingly.

Technical Coordination

  • Scope projects and evaluate distribution design requirements.
  • Analyze the impact on distribution systems and direct work order preparation.
  • Coordinate prerequisites for successful project completion using innovative approaches.

Field Work

  • Conduct on-site meetings with customers as needed.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.

Required Skills and Competencies

  • Strong analytical skills to solve complex problems and recommend corrective actions.
  • Excellent communication and customer service abilities.
  • Ability to multi-task and adapt quickly while maintaining organization.
  • Understanding of the impact of procedures across multiple systems.
  • Demonstrated leadership, teamwork, and independence in managing complex projects.
  • Proficiency in computer-assisted drafting (CAD), SAP, and Microsoft Office.
  • Strong computer literacy and analytical capabilities.

Educational Requirements

  • Associate degree in a scientific or technical field (minimum 48 credit hours), OR
  • Completion of two years of college coursework (minimum 60 credits) toward a Bachelor’s degree in a technical field.
