Safety Professional

W-2 Contract

On-site in Morrisville, NC

Summary: We are looking for a dedicated and experienced Safety Professional to join our team. The Safety Professional will be responsible for developing and implementing safety policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements, and fostering a culture of safety awareness among employees.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Safety Metrics and Reporting:

  • Prepare OSHA metrics reports.
  • Input monthly safety data into the Enterprise JDEHS (secure) database, including recordable data such as RIR rate, DART cases, Near Miss, Workers' Comp costs, number of employees, and work hours.

2. Incident and Injury Management:

  • Support worker’s compensation claims.
  • Review and investigate injuries and near-miss incidents.

3. Safety Documentation and Compliance:

  • Review emergency and safety documentation for accuracy and consistency with other John Deere locations.
  • Maintain and implement John Deere Health and Safety (JDHS) programs, including yearly updates and audits.
  • Review OSHA and Life Safety 101 policies.
  • Ensure correct signage and markings throughout the facility.
  • Submit and store documents as per the Retention Schedule.

4. Training and Certification:

  • Approve and certify PPE.
  • Develop and conduct regular monthly/annual safety training programs.
  • Create SOPs for major machine shop equipment (LOTO, Confined Space, 70e electrical, Lithium-Ion battery safety).
  • Design and conduct New Employee Safety (NES) Orientation (agenda, contact new/transfer employees, submit names into JDU).
  • Provide ongoing employee awareness training.

5. Audits and Inspections:

  • Organize quarterly SEAMS audits and closing gaps.
  • Complete yearly Enterprise audits.
  • Review new equipment (RED tag, PPE standards) for implementation.

6. Emergency Preparedness and Response:

  • Schedule regular drills with the fire department.
  • Manage the Emergency Response Team (ERT), including monthly meetings, recruitment, quarterly drills, and management of equipment/supplies.
  • Organize yearly safety events and drills (Fire/Tornado/Earthquake/Severe Weather).
  • Update the ‘Red Book’ with employee-facing Emergency Procedures.
  • Test and use emergency communication methods (EverBridge, Email, PA system, Radio).

7. Coordination and Liaison:

  • Work closely with the DG Coordinator/Hazmat contact.
  • Serve as a liaison between Corporate EH&S for new information and procedures.
  • Work with the lab manager to address non-compliance issues (fire, sprinklers, backflow testing).
  • Provide contractor support (JDHS 18, Avetta POC), including monthly audits, emergency approval, and contractor POC.
  • Mediate relations with government agencies (POC for OSHA, Homeland Security, Police, Fire, Food Safety, IDNR, EPA).

Other Tasks:

  • Disaster Recovery or Business Continuity Coordinator (coordinate Incident Response Team, maintain contact list, schedule meetings, maintain Disaster Recovery Plan).
  • Ergonomics Administrator (investigate issues, make recommendations, follow-up).
  • Schedule First Aid and CPR training for Deere employees.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or similar certification preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a safety-related role.
  • In-depth knowledge of OSHA regulations and safety standards.
  • Excellent communication and training skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining high standards.

Description: This is an entry-level position in the safety profession. It requires an understanding of safety principles and the ability to independently use this knowledge to comply with regulatory agency and company standards for injury and illness reporting. Responsibilities include working with employees and assisting supervisors in injury prevention, identifying and correcting potential safety hazards, developing safety programs, conducting audits, and providing training. The role also involves analyzing EHS metrics, reviewing new products and equipment for compliance, and communicating with safety equipment suppliers.
