Job Responsibilities
Collaborate with Safety and Operations teams to uphold safety standards and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements across the organization's operations.
Serve as the first point of contact for significant safety incidents, managing alerts, internal reports, and coordinating with external legal counsel during incident responses.
Take lead responsibility for managing the Company's Auto and General Liability litigation, including oversight of external counsel, implementing post-incident corrective actions, internal reporting on high-risk cases, and crafting risk mitigation strategies.
Provide legal oversight across all litigation matters, including participation in depositions, trials, mediations, and settlement discussions, and guide the discovery process from both written and verbal perspectives.
Partner with the Risk Management team to evaluate third-party claims administrator performance; analyze TPA reports, extract key insights, and report to executive leadership; actively participate in routine claim review discussions.
Work closely with Finance and Insurance departments to monitor insurance coverage, assess case reserves, and contribute to actuarial reviews.
Use safety and claims analytics to detect patterns and highlight areas for operational improvement and risk reduction.
Advise field personnel on safety incidents, investigations, and claims processes; occasionally lead field-based safety training sessions.
Oversee the Company's response to subpoenas, continuously improving efficiency and adherence to best practices.
Required Experience
A minimum of 8 years of legal practice, with strong experience in casualty litigation.
Prior work in a law firm setting is strongly preferred.
Experience in a corporate legal department managing a national liability claims program is highly desirable.
Exposure to workers' compensation matters is a plus.
Proven ability to independently manage a complex claims litigation docket, including direct supervision of outside legal counsel.
Background in leading both in-house and external legal teams.
Familiarity with transportation safety and regulatory frameworks is a plus.
