Key Responsibilities

  • Lead R&D and deployment of microgrid systems integrating renewables, battery storage, and backup power (diesel and H2) to enhance resilience and sustainability of data center power infrastructure.
  • Facilitate cross-functional collaboration among business units, engineering, and technical teams to deliver robust microgrid solutions.
  • Architect and implement advanced control systems—grid‑forming/following inverters, virtual synchronous generators, droop control, virtual inertia, and active damping for seamless transition between grid‑connected and islanded microgrids.
  • Validate models and grid supporting functions using digital twins (e.g. Opal‑RT), perform load flow, transient stability, fault, arc flash, and utility interconnection studies.
  • Execute comprehensive power systems studies, including stability under contingencies, reactive power management, load forecasting, and AGC strategy development using onsite generation assets, load flow and storage.
  • Translate research and field results into patents, technical publications, and internal documentation.
  • Mentor junior engineers and lead knowledge-sharing initiatives across the organization.
  • Track, evaluate, and adopt emerging technologies, industry trends, and regulatory standards (IEEE 1547, NEC, FERC, NERC, ISO/RTO practices).
  • Join standards committees for emerging grid codes

Qualifications

Required:

  • Master’s (min. 5-year experience) or PhD (min. 2-year experience) in Electrical/Power Systems/Power Electronics with experience in microgrids, DER, and energy storage.
  • Demonstrated expertise with MATLAB, PSCAD/Opal‑RT, ETAP, PSS/E, and DIgSILENT for simulation and modeling.
  • Proven background in inverter, converter, and BESS control system architecture and tuning.
  • Familiarity with SCADA/EMS, substation automation hardware (IEDs, RTUs), and communication protocols.
  • Experience with techno-economic evaluation of DER systems, energy markets, and microgrid optimization.
  • Strong written and verbal communication; ability to interact with internal teams, external stakeholders, and regulatory bodies.

Preferred:

  • U.S. citizenship or permanent resident status.
  • Experience with large-scale mission-critical data center microgrids (e.g. 100 MW+), utility interconnection, and energy markets.
  • Knowledge of utility interconnection processes and ISO/RTO standards (CAISO, PJM, NYISO, ERCOT, MISO, etc.).
  • Understanding of distributed energy technologies, including some combination of solar, battery, diesel generation and H2 power.
  • Experience with microgrid control, demand Management, Behind-The-Meter (BTM) storage, PV and Wind power generation and related power flow and modelling.
  • Understanding of various DER sources within a microgrid and how to interface them efficiently with the utility grid.
  • Proficiency in designing and tuning control systems for BESS and DERs to achieve specific microgrid operating objectives.
  • Familiarity with essential grid-support functions including frequency regulation, voltage support, black start, and reserve capabilities.
  • Expertise in grid stability functions such as virtual synchronous machines (VSM), synthetic inertia, active damping, and fault ride-through support.
  • Knowledge of demand-side strategies including peak shaving, load shifting, energy arbitrage, and congestion management.
  • Experience coordinating DERs for seamless transition between grid-connected and islanded modes, including grid-forming control, power balancing, renewable firming, and AGC integration.
